1000 miles and Snickers too!

I have the privilege of documenting and sharing about the trip of a 26 year old Sarasota man who is cycling 1000 miles from Atlanta to Sarasota, from April 15th through May 1st.    JW Frye (I call him Frye on the Fly, or the Sarasota Road Warrior) is the young man that has a huge goal of completing this arduous journey in about 2 weeks - and plans to finish up with a total 7500 miles by biking to Alaska next spring.

Why would anyone want to pedal their bike 1000 or 7500 miles?

For JW, this journey really started 4 years ago when his mother, Tara, was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.  As the eldest son in the family,  he relates that in ancient cultures it was an accepted that the eldest son should shoulder the majority of the weight of taking care of an ailing parent in their final days on the earth.  However, that burden would have been too great for JW, as it is for most that find themselves in these extremely devastating and exhausting circumstances.

JW shares that because of the Suncoast Hospice Foundation, the memories of the final days with his mom are not centered around pain and loss; but of how the earthly angels of Suncoast Hospice were able to be a true blessing to his mom and to his family.  They assisted them in helping and holding, the joys and tears, the laughter and pain and in the passing of her life into the next.

Join me  every weekday morning at 7:20 on Life891.com  for an “on the road update” from JW.   He’ll be sharing how the ride is going, how the muscles are feeling, and if SNICKERS really do satisfy, even when you are biking 1000 miles!  (JW says that peanut butter, bananas and Snickers are the best foods for biking workouts!)  Yay!

Monday morning (April 19) at 7:20am EDT is his first update from the road.

I think I need to take a quick ride to the closest convenience store to quiet my cravings!
